Summary of the game rules.
• The youngest player, or the team with the youngest player, takes the first turn, selecting any decade that suits them best.
• The player/team to the left takes a card from the appropriate decade deck in the box and scans the QR code in the centre, using the camera on a smartphone. Make sure that the correct side of the card is scanned! Scanning the QR code will take you to the Spot The Intro website.
• Tap the icon to the right of the song title. This will copy the song.
• Tap the operating system icon that corresponds to your preferred music streaming provider. For instance, if you are using Spotify and you have an Android phone tap the Android button (show arrow symbol in circle here as it doesn’t look like a button) to the left of Spotify; if you are using Apple Music and you have an iPhone tap the Apple button (again show here) to the right of Apple.
• Paste the song into your music provider’s ‘Search’ bar and select the tune to play.
• When ready, play the song for 15 seconds. Whilst the song is playing the guessing player/team should try to work out which song is being played. At 15 seconds pause the song… if it plays any longer you may give away the answer! The guessing player/team now state their answers but they are allowed only one guess at both the song and the artist. If the player/team cannot name the song or the artist, or they guessed incorrectly, their turn ends.
• Click the back arrow on your browser; this will take you back to the Spot The Intro song page. Click the Bonus Question button to check the answers.
• If the guessing player/team have named the song title correctly they score 1 point. If they have also named the artist they score a further point.
• If at least one answer is correct, ask the Bonus Question too. This will earn an additional point if answered correctly.
• Move the player’s/team’s counter clockwise around the board the number of points scored. This will range from 1 to 3 spaces according to the number of correct answers. The next turn is taken by the player/team to the left.
• Once counters are in play, the decade choice that a player/team faces on their next turn is dictated by the space on which their counter is resting. The player/team may choose either of the two decades indicated. For example, on a 60s/90s space you may choose to face either a song from the 1960s or one from the 1990s. Each Decade card has one decade on the face with the other on the reverse. For multicolour spaces the player/team may choose a card from any decade.
• Once a player or team reaches the ‘FINISH’ space they must wait for their next turn to try and win the game. When this occurs they may choose any decade to play, but must earn all 3 points by naming the song, the artist and correctly answering the Bonus Question. If, whilst trying to win, the player or team scores 2 points or less then they must await a further turn before attempting win the game again.
